Application Process

Please note: Parking on the Chicago campus is at capacity and most garages and lots are now operating on a waitlist procedure. Contact the Chicago Parking Office for additional details.

Apply for Commuter Permits

Make sure you meet the parking eligibility criteria.
  1. Your school's Student Services Office or department parking administrator will notify the Chicago Parking office via email of your approval for the parking waitlist. Upon verification by the Parking Office, you will be placed on the waitlist. Once an opening is available, you will be notified via email regarding next steps in the application process.
    1. Students: Contact the Student Services Office of your individual school.
    2. Faculty and Staff: If you do not know your department parking administrator, contact us at (312) 503-1103.
  2. Once you are notified your application is approved, bring the following items to the Chicago Parking Office:
    1. Your valid Wildcard
    2. Your valid driver's license
    3. Students must provide current vehicle registration (make sure it is not expired)
    4. Proof of local address (e.g., lease, utility bill, bank statement)
  3. Pay for your permit.
    1. Students: Parking permits can be purchased with credit card, cash, check or student account billing (in which case the charge will appear on the current quarter's tuition statement).
      1. Parking is available on an annual or academic year basis. Please see the Student Permit page for pricing and effective date information.
    2. Faculty and Staff: Parking must be paid through payroll deduction. Parking fees are deducted pre-tax from an employee's paycheck each month.
  4. Your Wildcard will be activated within two business days for your assigned parking garage or lot.
    1. Abbott Lot: Place your Wildcard in front of the reader at the lot entrance, tap it on the reader and the gate will automatically lift. When you exit, the gate will automatically lift.
    2. Erie/Ontario and Huron/Superior Garages: The license plate reader system (LPR) will attempt to read your license plate when you enter the garages. There are conditions that make it difficult for the system to read your license plate. In these instances, have your Wildcard ready as your back-up credential. If needed, place your Wildcard in front of the reader, tap it on the reader and the gate will automatically lift.
    3. Chestnut and 441 Garages: Place your parking transponder in front of the reader at the lot entrance, tap it on the reader and the gate will automatically lift.
