Bike Rooms and Racks

All bikes on campus must be parked at a bike rack.

For bicycle rack locations, please refer to campus maps for and . The Evanston campus has over 100 racks, and the Chicago campus offers racks and a secure bike room.

Locking your bike to a fence, street light pole, or street sign pole can add to sidewalk congestion and present safety issues. Similarly, locking your bike on a building ramp will constrict access, impacting the safety of those who need to use the ramp and handrails. Bikes that are not parked properly or that pose a safety issue may be removed by the University. Learn more about bike safety and purchasing a lock.

Be sure to review our Bike to Campus page for additional resources.

Secure Bike Room

The Chicago campus bike room offers secure parking for a $25 annual fee. The bike room can accommodate 68 bikes and is located in the Erie/Ontario parking garage (321 E Erie St). The bike room is locked and an authorized Wildcard is required to access it.

University faculty, staff, students and medical residents are eligible to store a bike during the workday (5 a.m. – midnight) on a first-come, first-served basis. Access is granted from the date of sign-up through September 30 of each year.

If capacity exists, the University may use its sole discretion to allow the public to use the bike room.

How to Enroll

  1. Complete the Bicycle Parking Agreement.
  2. Bring the agreement to the Chicago Parking Office.

The University will grant enrollment to parties who are eligible. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to students. Upon acceptance, the user will have access to the bike room with their Wildcard.

Bike Owner Responsibilities

Although the bike room has a locked outside door accessible by Wildcard, bike owners are responsible for keeping their bikes locked when placed in the bike room. All bicycles and accessories placed in the bike room shall be placed there at the bike owner's own risk.

The user agrees to leave the room in the same condition as it was found. The bike room is not to be used for any other use outside of storing your own bike.
